Sprinkler Spray Head Regulation
The Hydro-Rain HRS-200 is the first EPA WaterSense certified Adjustable Pressure Regulating spray body solution for states with legislation mandating pressure-regulation for spray bodies.
Here are the states with legislation in effect, as more states add legislation this list will be updated.
- In Vermont starting July 1, 2020, spray sprinklers offered for sale must include an integral pressure regulator that meets the criteria of the EPA WaterSense Specification for Spray Sprinkler Bodies, Version 1.0.
- In California, spray sprinklers made on or after October 1, 2020 are required to meet the criteria of the EPA WaterSense Specification for Spray Sprinkler Bodies, Version 1.0, and be listed on the CA Modern Appliance Efficiency Database.
- In Colorado starting January 1, 2021, spray sprinklers offered for sale must include an integral pressure regulator that meets the criteria of the EPA WaterSense Specification for Spray Sprinkler Bodies, Version 1.0.
- In Hawaii starting January 1, 2021, spray sprinklers offered for sale must include an integral pressure regulator that meets the criteria of the EPA WaterSense Specification for Spray Sprinkler Bodies, Version 1.0. Beginning January 1, 2022, it is prohibited from installing non-compliant spray sprinklers for compensation.
- In Washington spray sprinklers made on or after January 1, 2021 are required to include an integral pressure regulator and meet the criteria of the EPA WaterSense Specification for Spray Sprinkler Bodies, Version 1.0.

Hydro-Rain HRS-200 spray bodies optimize pressure for standard spray nozzles and high-efficiency rotator nozzles. Pressure regulation saves water by controlling flow, reducing misting, and improving distribution uniformity.
Hydro-Rain HRS-200 caps have PR molded into the cap to indicate the presence of pressure regulation. They are also color coded for easy field identification. Light grey for adjustable pressure regulating spray bodies and purple for reclaimed water.
The EPA WaterSense Certification logo is visible on the HRS-200 PR spray sprinkler body boxes along with the date of assembly.

It is important for installers, maintenance, and property owners to note the following.
- California requires pressure regulation for sprinkler spray bodies manufactured on or after October 1, 2020
- Washington requires pressure regulation for sprinkler spray bodies manufactured on or after January 1, 2021
All Hydro-Rain HRS-200 spray bodies with EPA Certified adjustable pressure regulation were manufactured on or after October 1, 2020. Prior to October 1, 2020 Hydro-Rain sold fixed pressure regulating sprinkler spray bodies.
