Drip Zone Filter Regulator leaking water

Sometimes you may notice water leaking from the relief hole in the pressure regulator filter. While some leaking during system pressurization is normal, the leak should stop within a minute or two of the drip line being pressurized.

There are several reasons why the relief port may leak or spray water.

Defective unit #

Water may spray from the relief port, if one of the 3 O-rings was damaged during the manufacturing process.

Solution: replace the whole assembly. While the pressure regulating sub-assembly can be removed and the O-ring replaced it is recommended to replace the whole assembly.

Incorrect installation: #

Water may leak from the hole if the pressure regulator is installed before (upstream of) the timer or valve, if there are too few drippers on the zone (rarely happens), or if it is installed backwards.

Solution: Correct the installation

Debris in system #

Water may leak if dirt is accumulating after the pressure regulator you may notice a small drip.

Solution: Flush the system

Excessive pressure #

Water may also leak from the hole if the static water pressure is too high. Most irrigation systems operate around 80 psi and any reading above 100 psi is considered high pressure.

Solution: add a whole system pressure regulator. Please contact your local water authority or distributor for more information.
