Programming a controller for indexing valves

Table of Contents
  • Multiple Start Time Method
  • Jumper Wires Method

There are two methods to wire and program a controller for use with an indexing valve. both methods require a valve (aka master valve) or a pump to be installed upstream of the indexing valve.

– Multiple Start Time Method

– Jumper Wires Method

* Please note that if you have a B-hyve controller connected to an Indexing Valve the smart watering program feature will not work.

Multiple Start Time Method  #

For this method, connect the wires from the Master Valve or Pump to the common terminal and station 1 terminal on the controller. Then program the controller with programs that have multiple start times with a 5-minute space in between them.

This wiring and programming option is good for stations that run for the same amount of time.

Below is an example situation for this method as well as a picture showing what the wiring should look like.

Example program:

Example Program:

Set station 1 to run for 10 minutes

  • First start time: 7 AM
  • Second start time: 7:15 AM
  • Third start time: 7:20 AM

Jumper Wires Method #

Connect the wires from the Master Valve or Pump to the common terminal and station 1 terminal on the controller.

Connect a jumper wire from the station 1 terminal to the station 3 terminal and continue adding jumper wires to every other station until you match the number of stations on the indexing valve. If the indexing valve has 6 stations you’ll need at least an 11-station controller.

This is a good wiring and programming choice if you want to have different run times for each station.

Below is an example situation for this method as well as a picture showing what the wiring should look like.

Example: You have an Indexing Valve that controls 6 zones and you want to run your stations at different times.

Example program:

  • Set station 1 to run for 10 minutes
  • Set station 2 to run for 5 minutes
  • Set station 3 to run for 15 minutes
  • Set station 4 to run for 5 minutes
  • Set station 5 to run for 20 minutes
  • Set station 6 to run for 5 minutes
  • Set station 7 to run for 12minutes
  • Set station 8 to run for 5 minutes
  • Set station 9 to run for 30minutes
  • Set station 10 to run for 5 minutes
  • Set station 11 to run for 16 minutes
